IS IT WORTH IT?

The wonderful news that the 15 naval personnel held captive in Iranian have landed in London has been tainted by the death of 4 British troops in Basra. This area, long regarded as the least dangerous and best policed, is starting to spiral downwards on a par with the capital Baghdad. Whilst I am by no means a pacifist, British involvement in this debacle is beginning to cause me great concerns. The following figures have been gleaned from BBC news sources:

US Military Casualties 3260

US Military Wounded 24314

GB Military Casualties 141

GB Military Wounded 480

Iraq Casualties 166383 March Deaths 1861, a 13% rise on February’s figures.

For a campaign that was designed to “free hearts and minds”, it would appear that all that has been freed is the ability to conduct slaughter. The arguments as to whether our forces should be there or not are well rehearsed and in view of the deaths today perhaps better left for another post. But look at the figures, and ask yourself, was it worth it?
