MORAL NEGLIGENCE

Once again Britain’s jails are full, with a record 550 people being held in police cells and court areas. According to the most up to date figures, by the weekend we may be no longer able to incarcerate any further criminals, either in police cells, jails or the back of Group 4 security vans (oh yes, this is being considered). Plans are being made to implement early release schemes and magistrates will be issued with instructions to use alternative measures to sentencing.

I sincerely hope then, that this is not why Christopher Morl, a South Shields sex offender with five assaults to his name over a three-month period, has been spared from a prison sentence and allowed to walk free from court. One of his victims was only 13 years old.

If this perverted individual commits another offence whilst surviving his derisory two year supervision order, I hope the local magistrates who let him walk the streets are hauled before the courts and charged with negligence or dereliction of duty. As it stands now, they are faced with the moral charge of a failure of duty of care.
