With Blair’s departure date rapidly approaching, you would think that he would do anything to avoid controversy. Not Tony, though, he just can’t help showing his arrogance and ignorance in abundance. Six months ago Blair personally stopped a Serious Fraud Office enquiry into BAE and a series of illegal payments to certain Saudi officials. Centred on a rather luscious Eurofighter deal, the sandal involved payments of approximately £1 billion to Prince Bandar bin Sultan. Whilst the anger surrounding this affair had virtually subsided (lets face it, Blair had set his government above the law) it reared it’s kickback head again this week when the Guardian accused Lord Goldsmith, Attorney General, of authorising the with holding of certain damning information from the eyes of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) who were also slightly miffed with the antics of BAE. With no control of the OECD, Blair couldn’t wield his “no go” hammer, so it’s not feasible to think that he had no involvement in authorising the placing of certain documents at the back of the draw!
