QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Today’s Independent carries a pretty good question and answer session with David Cameron that is worth having a look at. Being the Indy, there is a pretty heavy emphasis on green policies, and whilst Cameron is no doubt sincere and aware that changes are needed, he still doesn’t produce a full endorsement for change. Whilst there is always a daft question (in this case “Tell me something about you that I don’t already know?” Answer “Yesterday I cooked chicken for lunch”) Cameron’s political thinking comes across as traditional Tory; support of the monarchy, reform of Europe, outright opposition to the Euro and despite the recent arguments over grammar schools, a commitment at least not to scrap them.

Iraq inevitably draws attention, and I do detect an increasing degree of unease creeping into the Tory rhetoric.

Whilst these question and answer sessions can be somewhat shallow at times, Cameron emerges pretty unscathed but to be honest, a little bit lightweight. With no scathing attacks on Blair and no major policy outlines, lets hope he is keeping his ideas for when Brown takes over.

On a separate note, he lists his heroes as being Churchill and Garibaldi. I could vote for a man who likes a good biscuit!
