AN UPDATE ON THE UPDATE UPDATE

Unless they find life on Mars or Roy Keane signs David Beckham, Tyne Tees will lead with the Metro DVD. South Tyneside Council have issued a press statement that would not endorse the placing of yellow lines in the school buses area, despite a child nearly being killed. Obviously, they are waiting for a fatality before they act.

This report to the next CAF meeting suggests they aren't about todo much else either! Wash their hands and let the police deal with those who park on kerbs etc.

Parking attendants were asked to monitor illegal parking in the area. Their powers only cover parking on yellow lines. To be honest this is not a major problem in the area, it is the parking half on/half off pavements that causes issues, especially to the disabled in motorised chairs and young mothers with prams etc. The police do what they can, but to be honest, do I want them tied up all day solving a problem that the Council could address with yellow lines? Of course not. I recently watched a mother push a double buggy down the road against the flow of traffic because she could not use the path. I went out to help her, she carried the kids and I carried the buggy till we could access the path further down from the Metro. I don’t have it in me to say “I told you so” when a major accident occurs, and this is behind the drive to solve the problem now.
