NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT

Some time ago I posted on the extravagant travellings of Sir John Bourn, Head of the National Audit Office (The Bourn Supremacy 30.05.07). My views on the man were frankly not very complimentary and I think with some justification. Whilst on foreign trips he managed to spend £336,000 of taxpayer’s money on hotels, food and related expenses. His wife, who often accompanied him, managed to spend £76,000 of our money as well, even though she is not a civil servant.

In the interests of fair play however, it must be pointed out that Bourn and Wife have been found not guilty by the Public Accounts Committee, who found “no evidence of impropriety” and that he had “acted in accordance with rules”.

CHANGE THE RULES THEN!
