30 PIECES OF SILVER

Whilst most papers enthuse on the job prospects of Messrs Blair and Prescott now that they have resigned from their day jobs, it is Cherie Blair who has front page coverage in today’s Telegraph. Lady Butler-Sloss, former President of the Family Division and currently in charge of the Lady Diana inquest, has advised Mrs Blair to decide whether she wants “cash or court” as a future career. The two clearly aren’t compatible, but which is the more attractive? On previous behaviour, the money will be a big pull for Cherie. With three sell out lecture tours planned for North America the only bar she will be looking at will be a gold one.

Whilst I have no concerns about Cherie becoming a judge (I assume she has the qualifications) I do have concerns about what her lectures and no doubt future books will cover. Certain restrictions apply to departing PM’s as to what they can and can’t say about their time in office. However, none apply to the “first lady”, so be prepared for some “pillow talk” via Mrs Blair’s various ramblings over the next few months. Personally, I’m not in favour of this automatic move to the media circus on a departure from office, it smacks of abuse of power and privilege. Mind you, the Blair’s have had ten years practise, so let’s not be surprised when they adopt a “Clinton” like world tour!
