As the final election results start to come in, it’s clear that Labour have not been landed the bloody nose that we all hoped they would. It’s pointless going through the results here in detail, just check your evening papers and Saturday morning editions to get the full run down.
Before these are even published however, the spin has started. Labour are claiming victory (who wouldn’t, they expected to be wiped out) and the Conservatives are shouting “resurrection” at the top of their voices. As for the Liberals, well let’s just say their still Liberals.
Whilst Cameron may have cause to be smug, he should have done better. Despite Tony Blair running the country like a private fiefdom, and incompetently to boot, he was not able to deal him a crushing blow. Blair will now depart feeling pretty good with himself. To make matters worse, Brown will claim some of the glory for his future leadership campaign.
What will stand out from this election is the ludicrous situation regarding ballot papers in Scotland. With a university degree needed in philosophy before you can even look at the ballot paper, how was the average voter meant to comprehend the ridiculous system of voting? With the Electoral Commission demanding an immediate investigation, how can this country lecture the likes of Iraq, North Korea and Zimbabwe on the principals of democracy ever again?

Not a bloody nose! I think you rushed to thought too quickly, if they weren't in such a position of hanging on to the ropes then the Prime Minister in waiting (Gordo) would have been out and about offering some encouragement!
No, not a sign of him.
Conservatives now control five times more councils than Labour, they have more English councillors than the other parties combined, and 89 councils have no Labour representation at all.
