With out a department and sidelined by Tony Blair, John “Presser” Prescott has found himself being treated like the equivalent of a media and political leper. His flame will be further diminished when he relinquishes any other duties he may have, round about the same time as Tony goes. However, last weeks Sunday Times has presser marked down as some sort of “special envoy”

Not a reference to restaurants, apparently old John’s new mission in life will be as a trade representative for British firms trying to break into China. Personally, I’m not convinced that he will get the job. Professor KK Cheng, an epidemiologist at Birmingham University told the times “that doing business in China required a sophisticated political approach”. Ahem, here we go then; fighting in the streets, dubious regional planning decisions, extra marital affairs, a scant regard for tax payers money, a mouth that needs washing out with soap and the personal ethics of a work shy fop – now if that’s sophistication, the Chinese are welcome to him!
